The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! lead Tony nominations with Rose Byrne and Daniel Radcliffe in the race

The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! lead this year’s Tony nominations with 12 nods each.

The original musicals, based on the 80s vampire movie and cancelled Apple TV comedy respectively, will face off against each other in the category of original musical up against Titanique and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).

Musical revival Ragtime follows with 11 nominations.

After scoring her first Oscar nomination for anxiety-fuelled dark comedy If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Rose Byrne has now received her first Tony nomination in the category of best actress in a play for her role in Noel Coward comedy Fallen Angels. Her co-star Kelli O’Hara has also received a nod, making it her ninth nomination.

In a five-star review, the Guardian’s Juan A Ramirez called the actors “compulsively watchable”.

The pair will face off against Carrie Coon for Bug, Susannah Flood for Liberation and Lesley Manville for Oedipus. Manville previously won the Olivier for her performance in the show’s West End run.

After winning a Tony for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along, Daniel Radcliffe has received another nomination this year for taking on acclaimed one-man show Every Brilliant Thing. He will compete in the category of lead actor in a play along with Nathan Lane for Death of a Salesman, Will Harrison for Punch, Mark Strong for Oedipus and John Lithgow for Giant. Lithgow won the Olivier for his performance in 2025.

The category of best play is led by feminism drama Liberation, which just won a Pulitzer prize this week. It will face off against Giant, The Balusters and Little Bear Ridge Road.

The category of best revival of a play features Death of a Salesman, Becky Shaw, Every Brilliant Thing, Fallen Angels and Oedipus.

Luke Evans has received a lead actor in a musical nomination for his Broadway debut in The Rocky Horror Show. He will face off against Nicholas Christopher for Chess, Sam Tutty for Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) and Brandon Uranowitz and Joshua Henry for Ragtime. On Monday night Henry opened this year’s Met Gala with a special musical performance.

In the category of lead actress in a musical, the nominees are Sara Chase for Schmigadoon!, Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu for The Rocky Horror Show, Caissie Levy for Ragtime, Marla Mindelle for Titanique and Christiani Pitts for Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).

The award for best revival of a musical will be fought out by just three shows: Ragtime, Cats: The Jellicle Ball and The Rocky Horror Show.

Other nominated actors in the featured categories include Laurie Metcalf and Christopher Abbott for Death of a Salesman, Alden Ehrenreich for Becky Shaw, Ruben Santiago-Hudson from Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and June Squibb for Marjorie Prime. At 96, Squibb has become the oldest actor nominee in Tonys history.

Notable snubs include Lea Michele for Chess, the musical adaptation of Beaches, Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson for The Fear of 13, The Queen of Versailles and its star Kristin Chenoweth, the stars of Dog Day Afternoon, Taraji P Henson for Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, Keanu Reeves for Waiting for Godot and Proof stars Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle.

Last year’s ceremony saw romantic robot musical Maybe Happy Ending win six awards with Nicole Scherzinger, Cole Escola and Kara Young also taking home trophies.

This year’s ceremony will take place on 7 June with singer Pink set to host.
